#ABRoadEats 2016: Calling All Fans for Recommendations

#ABRoadEats 2016: Calling All Fans for Recommendations

If you’ve been following me online, I’m sure you’ve noticed the dozens of doughnuts, hot dogs and hamburgers I ate on the road during The Edible Inevitable Tour. Well I’m about to do it again, this time for an all-new show called Eat Your Science (dates and tickets here).

Since your recommendations were spot on (thank you), I’m asking you again: Where should I eat? In each city, I’m looking for coffee shops, restaurants, late-night snacks and sandwiches available in the area. Keep it local and simple…nothing fancy.

If you know of a must-visit eatery or coffee shop in a city featured below, tell me in the comments, or on Facebook or Twitter.

You must include the hashtag to the appropriate city (otherwise I can’t thank you or stay organized):

Memphis, TN – you should really hit up Charles Vergos Rendezvous Ribs. Same great charcoal ribs for more than half a century.

  2. 2

Worcester, MA – A few miles south is Oxford, MA, home of Carl’s Oxford Diner. Breakfast is unbeatable and portions are of record breaking size. I worked in Worcester over a summer years ago and still dream of the omelets I used to order. There is no fuss or hurrah just an all-American diner that is a freakin’ institution.

#ABRoadEatsSJ It will be pretty warm in San Jose so Milk and Wood for custom ice cream bars and Jimbo’s for mochi ice cream. We would love to have you stop by our Route 66 Diner the Rock Cafe! Just a hop, skip and a jump from Tulsa! We have been in the same location since 1939 serving good food and wonderful service! Bring the cameras or leave them behind makes no difference to us!

You MUST get croissants and pastries from Essence Bakery. Some of the best croissants anywhere; definitely the best in AZ, hands down. Chef Eugenia’s creations are amazing. Two locations: in Tempe at University and Hardy, and in Phoenix on Indian School at about 38th Street. It’s a bit of a drive from Mesa, but absolutely worth it. Call ahead to order, as they do tend to run out of things. Just down the street from the Tempe location is the original Cartel Coffee Lab location, too.

Mesa, AZ – You gotta check out Yoli’s Café in Chandler, AZ for breakfast. They have the best french toast and its one of those hidden gems that you just have to try. Hope you enjoy your stay out here.

AB, I know that Boise area isn’t on the list for this years tour, but if you come through, go to Tango’s Empanadas. First place I ate when I moved here from California and I would put it on In an Out’s level.

Demitasse Cafe in Chicago’s Little Italy is the place to go for delicious coffee. They roast their own! Try a scone and eye-catching layered latte or perhaps the best chai latte I’ve ever had. #ABRoadEatsCHI

#ABRoadEatsColumbia – Hot 4 Wings/Filipino Flair is a tiny little place in a strip mall just NW of Columbia, in Lexington, SC. They offer excellent wings and outstanding, authentic Filipino food, prepared by Linda Kaserman cooking the foods she grew up eating. Such a delightful and unexpected surprise in this area. People talk about driving hours to eat this great food. And don’t miss her traditional desserts as well.
