#ABRoadEats 2015: Calling All Fans for Recommendations

#ABRoadEats 2015: Calling All Fans for Recommendations

If you’ve been following me online, I’m sure you’ve noticed the dozens of doughnuts, hot dogs and hamburgers I ate on the road (not to mention all the coffee) from city-to-city for my culinary variety show called The Edible Inevitable Tour (dates and tickets here).

Since your recommendations were spot on (thank you), I’m asking you again: Where should I eat? In each city, I’m looking for coffee shops, restaurants, late-night snacks and sandwiches available in the area.

If you know of a must-visit eatery in a city featured below, tell me in the comments, or on Facebook or Twitter.

You must include the hashtag to the appropriate city (otherwise I can’t thank you or stay organized):

#ABRoadEatsHouston You absolutely HAVE to try Corkscrew BBQ while you are in Houston. It is THE best bbq around, the pitmaster knows his meat! Order a “dino rib”, and some moist brisket, make sure to try whatever flavor cobbler Nichole made that day, and be prepared to pig out!

Mr. Brown, may I suggested that you head over to the Longhorn Cafe, located at 17625 Blanco Road. They have the best burgers in town! They are big, greasy and made fresh to order. And don’t forget the chili cheese tator tots…..they melt in your mouth!

Pretty exciting that Alton Brown is gonna be on the road to OKC while I sleep. Wonder where he will stop and eat? #ABroadEatsOKC suggestions would be S&B Burger Joint off Broadway on NW 9th, also get to see #theflaminglips funky building there. As for me, I will be at Fassler Hall OKC for housemade german sausages, duck fat fries, and some amazing beers, on 10th at Hudson before I head to the show!

Alton, in Davenport IA, eat at Zeke’s Island Cafe for the pulled pork sliders and the hand-made potato chips with the shrimp dip. Also try the peel and eat shrimp. Small, free-standing joint with great staff!

    Sorry, forgot the hashtag
Hi Alton, Saw you in Chicago last year, and can’t wait to see you again. I would agree with the other suggestions Red band coffee, Barley and Rye, and Red Crow Grill. I would also add Front Street Brewery. Great food, and the beer is awesome. Or you could just come to my house. The menu is whatever you’d like. Let me know. P.S Bow ties are cool!

If you are looking for a different atmosphere, with incredible food, try Tanuki. I doubt you will be able to show much of the surrounding, but it is a most delicious Izakaya with a most unique Chef/Owner.

#ABRoadEatsDVN – while in town, you should definitely check out The 11th Street Precinct bar and grill in The Village of East Davenport. The food is amazing. They have pizzas that you can’t get anywhere else, award winning tenderloins, homecut fries, housemade soups. The gardiniara and bbq sauce are house made as well. You won’t be disappointed!

The previous suggestions from folks in Fort Wayne have been more appropriate for Guy’s Triple D! For a delightful meal, may I recommend Paula’s Seafood on West Main –you will not be disappointed. BTW, I am Not affiliated with this place in any way.

    Hey AB,
I have the definitive #ABRoadEatsFtWayne list here:

For morning coffee, try Old Crown coffee roasters. Their “9th degree of Darkness” roast is legit. If you ask nicely, they might even let you play the pinball machines in back.

The best pizza is at 800 Degrees Wood Fired Pizza. Neopolitan-style with delicious local ingredients.

If you like barbeque (duh), go for Blue Stack Smokehouse. It’s a rather “non-denominational” Q joint that doesn’t specialize in one regional style. But that doesn’t keep them from making everything mind-smokingly good. Call early in the day to order, as they’ve been known to legitimately run out of meat, they’re that good.

Now everyone in town will tell you that you HAVE to go to Coney Island, but locals in the know (and some local food critics) will tell you that the better coneys are at Southtown Inn, a little bar on the south end of town. Also home to the best pickled eggs, cucumbers, and cabbage ever (full disclosure, my family has owned the place for decades, so I’m a little biased). Call a few days in advance to make sure they’re not catering anything that day, though.

Looking forward to seeing you in the Fort!

#ABRoadEatsTucson There are many restaurants in Tucson, AZ with the name Molina, but the one you dare not miss is Molina’s Midway. https://plus.google.com/106121980096266055199/about?hl=en This is the best Sonoran Mexican restaurant I’ve ever eaten at and is a must-do anytime I am in town. Just beware their early closing time and dedicating to being closed Mondays.

If you need something quicker, though, it’s also worth mentioning local frozen beverage / grinder chain Eegee’s, who you should be able to find at most of your desert southwest stops. Don’t pass through the region without
    trying an eegee.
